Drug intelligence / Profile preview
(D-Ser2)Oxm[mPEG-PAL] is a novel, chemically modified, enzyme-resistant analogue of the gut hormone oxyntomodulin (Oxm). Developed by researchers at Ulster University and its spin-out company, Dia Beta Labs, the peptide is designed for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes. It features a D-serine substitution at position 2 to confer resistance against dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) degradation, and is PEGylated with a mini-polyethylene glycol (mPEG) linker conjugated to a palmitic acid (PAL) chain at the C-terminus to extend its circulating half-life. As a dual agonist of both the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) and the glucagon receptor (GCGR), (D-Ser2)Oxm[mPEG-PAL] stimulates insulin secretion, improves glucose tolerance, reduces food intake, and promotes weight loss.
